What to Do if Your Hive Window or Door Sensors are Offline
- Remove and Reinsert Battery: Take out the battery for 10 seconds, then put it back in.
- Wait and Refresh: Wait 5 minutes, then refresh the Hive app. The sensor should show as ‘Connected’.
- Retry Near Hive Hub: If still offline, repeat Step 1 but stand close to the Hive Hub when replacing the battery.
- Change Battery: If the sensor remains offline, try changing the battery.
Resetting Your Hive Window or Door Sensors
Before November 2016:
- Slide off the back cover of the larger sensor piece.
- Remove the battery.
- Locate the small white button.
- Put the battery back in place.
- Press the white button 10 times (once per second).
- Now, turn the device over. You should be able to see on the front that the green light is on for five seconds, and then starts double flashing.
- Follow the steps in the Hive app to add the device.
After November 2016:
- Slide the front of the case down
- Locate the small red button and hold down for approximately 10 seconds. During this time, you will see a red light come on and go back off again.
- A green light will then flash once.
- After about 5 seconds, you will see a flashing amber light to indicate the sensor is in pairing mode.
- Follow the steps in the Hive app to add the device.
Changing Your Hive Window or Door Sensor Battery
Changing the battery in your Hive Window or Door Sensor depends on when you purchased it. Follow the steps below based on your purchase date:
For Sensors Purchased Before November 2016:
- Open the Sensor: Press firmly on the markings on the larger part of the Hive Window or Door Sensor and pull off the front of the case.
- Remove the Old Battery: Pull the used battery out and dispose of it using appropriate recycling methods. You can find guidance on this at Recycle More.
- Insert the New Battery: Insert the new battery, ensuring the ‘+’ and ‘-’ ends match the illustrations inside the casing.
- Close the Sensor: Replace the front casing, clicking it into place.

For Sensors Purchased From November 2016:
- Open the Sensor: Slide the front of the case down.
- Remove the Old Battery: Pull the used battery out and dispose of it using appropriate recycling methods. You can find guidance on this at Recycle More.
