What to Do if Your Hive Sensors Are Offline
- Remove and Reinsert Battery: Take out the battery for 10 seconds, then put it back in.
- Wait and Refresh: Wait 5 minutes, then refresh the Hive app. The sensor should show as ‘Connected’.
- Retry Near Hive Hub: If still offline, repeat Step 1 but stand close to the Hive Hub when replacing the battery.
- Change Battery: If the sensor remains offline, try changing the battery.
Resetting Your Pet Friendly/Hive Motion Sensor
Before November 2016:
- Slide off the back cover and remove the battery.
- Locate the small white button, put the battery back, and press the button 10 times.
- Look for a green light that stays on for 5 seconds, then starts double flashing.
- Follow the steps in the Hive app to add the device.
After November 2016:
- Slide the front of the case up.
- Hold the small red button for about 10 seconds.
- Look for a green light that flashes once, then an amber light indicating pairing mode.
- Follow the steps in the Hive app to add the device.
Pet Friendly Sensor:
- Press and hold the button on the side for around 8 seconds until the light blinks red.
- Release the button and wait for the light to change to flashing amber.
- Follow the steps in the Hive app to add the device.
Changing Your Pet Friendly/Hive Motion Sensor Battery
Changing the battery on your sensor depends on when you bought it.
If you bought your sensor before November 2016, to change the battery:
- Press firmly on the markings on the larger part of the Hive Motion Sensor and pull off the front of the case and then pull the used battery out.
- Insert the new battery taking care to make sure the battery is the right way round so that the '+' and '-" ends of the battery match the ends illustrated inside the casing.
- Replace the front casing, clicking it into place.
If you bought your Sensor from November 2016, to change the battery:
- Slide the front of the case up and pull the used battery out.
- Insert the new battery taking care to make sure the battery is the right way round so that the '+' and '-"" ends of the battery match the ends illustrated inside the casing.
- Slide the front of the case back down.
If you have a Pet Friendly Motion Sensor, to change the battery:
- Slide the front of the case up and pull the used battery out.
- Insert the new battery taking care to make sure the battery is inserted so that the '+' and '-' ends of the battery match the ends illustrated inside the casing.
- Slide the front of the case back down.

When your Hive Motion Sensor's batteries have run out, we recommend replacing them with a Duracell Lithium battery CR123A.
