Answer
You can start using Hive+ from day one. When you first join, we give you handy insights and recommendations straight away using average data based on what you tell us about your home. This means you don't have to wait before seeing features like Budget Tracker, Saver Mode, Schedule Assist and Carbon Insights.
Getting to know your home better
You can access these features immediately, but Hive+ is still learning how your home heats and how you use your heating so it can give you personalised recommendations.
While it’s doing that, you’ll see this banner in the app. It’ll disappear once we’ve collected 30 days of learning data, and you might see some of your data update.

Once we have 30 usable days of heating data, we build a more detailed understanding of your home, including:
- When and how often your heating runs
- Your preferred temperatures
- How your home responds to different outdoor temperatures
As we learn more, your insights and recommendations become increasingly tailored to your home and heating habits.
What is a usable day?
We get usable data on days when you use your heating consistently. That means typical days when your heating is on in a regular pattern, rather than brief or extreme cases.
Because of this, collecting 30 usable days of may take longer than 30 calendar days, depending on how often you use your heating.
Why do the insights improve over time?
Every home is different. Factors such as insulation, property size, heating habits and local weather all affect how much energy you use.
The more Hive learns about your home, the more accurately it can:
- Suggest heating schedules that suit your routine
- Help balance comfort and savings
- Estimate heating costs
- Give you carbon impact insights
