Preparing Your Hive Hub for the Switch
When changing broadband providers or simply switching your router, your Hive Hub will need to connect to the new router. Follow these steps:
-
Disconnect the Hive Hub: Before your new broadband service is active, disconnect your Hive Hub from the old router. Unplug the Ethernet cable connecting your Hive Hub to the router.
-
Set Up Your New Router: Once your new broadband service is up and running, set up your new router as instructed by your provider.
-
Reconnect Your Hive Hub: Plug your Hive Hub into the new router using an Ethernet cable. Ensure the Hive Hub is powered on. The hub should automatically connect to the new broadband network after a few minutes. The light on the Hive Hub will change from flashing green to solid green once it is connected.
NOTE: Hive Hubs are not compatible with 2.5 Gbps ports and require an internet connection speed above 5 Mbps.
-
Update Your Hive Hub: If your Hive Hub hasn’t been connected and online for a while, it may require an update. When first connecting, it will flash green quickly and then change to solid green when connected. During updates, it will flash green slowly. This process usually takes 15-20 minutes, but can take up to an hour.
Updating Settings in the Hive App
After connecting your Hive Hub to the new router, you may need to update some settings in the Hive app:
- Check Connectivity: Open the Hive app on your smartphone or tablet, navigate to the “Manage” section, and then “Devices.” Check if the Hive Hub is showing as connected. If it isn’t, you may need to restart your Hive Hub or your router.
- Reconfigure Wi-Fi Devices: If you have Hive devices that connect via Wi-Fi (such as the Hive View indoor/outdoor camera), update these devices with the new Wi-Fi network name (SSID) and password through the Hive app.
Hive Hub 360
The Hive Hub 360 connects via Wi-Fi instead of an Ethernet cable. Here’s what to do when changing broadband providers:
- Reconnect to New Wi-Fi: Ensure your new Wi-Fi is set up and working correctly.
- Using the Hive App: Open the Hive app, select “Manage,” then “Devices,” and choose your Hive Hub 360. Select “Change Wi-Fi Network” and follow the prompts to enter your new Wi-Fi network details (SSID and password).
Re-sync Devices
After connecting the Hive Hub 360 to your new network, check if all Hive devices are syncing properly. If not, follow the troubleshooting steps provided in the app.
Troubleshooting Tips
If you face any issues while reconnecting your Hive Hub or Hive Hub 360, try the following steps:
- Restart Your Router and Hive Hub: Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve connectivity issues. Restart your router first, and once it’s online, restart your Hive Hub. Allow 5-10 minutes for them to reconnect. Check for a solid green light on the Hive Hub to indicate it’s connected.
- Check Cables and Connections: Ensure all cables are securely connected and that the router is functioning correctly.
- Update the Hive App: Make sure your Hive app is updated to the latest version, as software updates can fix bugs and improve connectivity.
Changing broadband providers involves more than just swapping out your router. For smart home devices like the Hive Hub, it’s essential to follow these steps to ensure a seamless transition. Whichever Hive Hub you have, these guidelines will help you get back online quickly and enjoy your new broadband service without any interruptions.
