Answer

Away Mode is a Hive+ feature that lets you change multiple smart home devices with a single tap when you’re out. It applies your chosen presets across heating, lights, plugs and radiator valves to help you save energy without tweaking each device.

When you’re back, you can switch to Home Mode manually – set a return time so everything reverts automatically.

How does Away Mode work?

Customise how each device behaves when Away Mode is on via Manage → Away Mode:

  • Lights: turn on (with preferred brightness/colour), turn off, or leave unchanged
  • Plugs: turn on, turn off, or leave unchanged
  • Radiator valves: turn off (Frost Protect at 7°C), set a target temperature, or leave unchanged
  • Thermostats: turn off (Frost Protect at 7°C), set a target temperature, or leave unchanged

Why use Away Mode?

  • One tap to save energy across multiple devices
  • Frost Protect keeps your home from dropping below 7°C
  • Choose manual control or automatic reversion with a return time
  • Full control from anywhere

Setting a return time

Under the “Hive is Away” header you’ll see a pill that shows “Set Return Time” by default (or your chosen date/time, e.g. “Fri 14 Mar, 15:15” once set).

  • Tap the pill to open the dialog and choose when your devices should switch back to their default Home settings.
  • You can opt in to a push notification reminder one hour before the Away period ends.
  • You can still toggle back to Home Mode manually at any time.

Can I change devices while Away Mode is on?

Yes. From version 14.0, you can edit your Away Mode settings even while Away Mode is active.

If you can’t change settings while Away Mode is on, update the app to 14.0+.
