Answer

Away Mode allows you to quickly adjust all your heating, lighting, and plug settings with one tap, helping you save energy when your plans change.

How It Works:

Hive Plus members can find the Away Mode toggle in the top right corner of the dashboard. Tapping it sets your thermostat, lights, plugs, and radiator valves to preset Away Mode settings, eliminating the need to adjust each device individually. Switch back to Home Mode to return to your usual settings.

Setting Up Away Mode:

You have complete freedom to decide what your Hive devices do while in Away Mode. Turn off the heating completely, or just lower the temperature. Switch all the lights off or leave the hallway one on to welcome you home. It’s quick and easy to set up – then we’ll automatically switch to these settings whenever you turn on Away Mode.

Go to Manage > Away Mode to set up each device.

Hive Lights  NOTE: Away Mode is not currently compatible with grouped lights.

  • Turn on – Switch your light on. We’ll automatically recall your preferred colour, tone, and intensity.
  • Turn off – Your light will remain off until you switch back to Home Mode.
  • Don’t change – Your light will continue to run on its current setting, schedule, or mode.

Hive Plugs

  • Turn on – Turn your plug on to power your connected appliance or device.
  • Turn off – Your plug will remain off until you switch back to Home Mode.
  • Don’t change – Your plug will continue to run on its current setting or schedule.

Hive Radiator Valves

  • Turn off – Your radiator valve will enter Frost Protect mode and will only turn the boiler on if the actual temperature drops to 7°C.
  • Set target temperature – Your radiator valve will only turn the boiler on if the actual room temperature drops below the target you’ve chosen.
  • Don’t change – Your radiator valve will continue to run on its current setting or schedule.

Hive Thermostats

  • Turn off – Your heating will enter Frost Protect mode and will only turn on if the actual temperature drops to 7°C.
  • Set target temperature – Your heating will turn on if the actual temperature drops below the target you’ve chosen.
  • Don’t change – Your heating will continue to run on its current setting or schedule.

Accessing Away Mode:

Away Mode is an exclusive feature for Hive Plus members. If you’re not already a member, start your monthly or annual subscription to get access to Away Mode and loads more money-saving features.

Once subscribed, just head to your app dashboard – you’ll see the Away Mode toggle in the top right-hand corner.

Updating Settings:

To avoid accidentally switching things on and wasting energy, you won’t be able to make changes to the dashboard while Away Mode is on. Instead, head to Manage > Away Mode to update your settings, or simply switch back to Home Mode using the toggle.
