Answer
How Activity Notifications Work
Hive View and Hive View Outdoor cameras send notifications when they detect motion, sound, or a person. You can receive these notifications via push, email, or text (if you have a Hive Video Playback membership or are a member of Hive Live).
By default, notifications are enabled for push and email when you install your camera. This includes system alerts for when the camera is offline, overheats, or has a low battery (for Hive View only), as well as activity alerts for event detection. Ensure you enable permissions for push notifications in your phone’s settings; refer to your phone manufacturer’s instructions for guidance.
How to Turn Activity Notifications On or Off
You can easily manage your notification preferences for your Hive View or Hive View Outdoor camera. Here’s how:
- Open the Hive app and log in with your username and password if prompted.
- Select the camera you wish to adjust from the dashboard.
- Tap the “Settings” icon and navigate to the “Notifications” section.
- Toggle “Notifications” on or off.
- If enabled, choose your preferred notification method (push, email, or text) and set a schedule if desired (note: text notifications require Hive Live or Hive Video Playback membership).
- Select “Save” if prompted.
NOTE: System alerts will always remain enabled via push and email.
Reducing Excess Notifications
If you find you are receiving too many notifications, you can adjust your settings to reduce them:
-
Activity Zones: Go to Home > HomeShield settings > Camera Settings > Detection > Activity Zones. Select specific areas to monitor, ensuring you only receive notifications for activity in those zones.
-
Motion Detection: Navigate to Home > HomeShield settings > Camera Settings > Detection > Motion. Choose “People” to receive notifications only when a person is detected. If monitoring an area that may have frequent activity, you can set it to “All Motion.” Be aware that shadows or moving trees may trigger notifications. The detection range is 40 feet during the day and 15 feet at night.
Troubleshooting Missing Notifications
If you haven’t received an activity notification, follow these steps:
-
Check Monitoring Status: Ensure your camera monitoring is switched on using the shield icon under the viewing pane.
-
Verify Notification Settings:
- Open the Hive app and log in if needed.
- Select the camera from the dashboard.
- Tap the “Settings” icon and go to the “Notifications” section.
- Ensure notifications are toggled on. Check if a notification schedule is set, as it may be in a time slot where notifications are suspended.
- Select “Save” if needed.
-
Push Notification Permissions: If you selected push notifications only, confirm that you have enabled permissions for the Hive app in your phone’s settings.
Notification Frequency
To avoid overwhelming you with notifications, the system limits alerts to one notification every 15 minutes for each event type (sound and motion/person). All events will still be recorded, allowing you to review them later in the Hive app.
If you have checked all settings and still do not receive notifications, rest assured that all activity will still be captured in recordings for you to access later.
