Answer
Where Is the Best Place to Plug in My Siren?
We recommend connecting your siren to a plug in an upstairs bedroom to minimise visible power cables. The siren comes with a 7m power cable, providing flexibility in placement.
How Do I Turn My Siren Light On?
You can control your siren light through the Hive app, just like any other Hive light. It will appear on the HomeShield dashboard as Siren Light 1 (or whatever you have renamed it).
- Ensure the slider for the light is set to Manual.
- Touch the middle of the display where it shows “off” to turn it on.
- Alternatively, from the Device list view, select the light to switch it on. The light can also be triggered via a schedule or an action.
What Do the Lights on My Siren Mean?
Your Hive siren features two lights: a blue status light and a white floodlight. Here’s what they indicate:
-
Installation Sequence:
- Power Cable Inserted: Blue LED on solid (1 short beep).
- Pairing Mode: Blue LED flashing (0.5 seconds on, 0.5 seconds off) (1 short beep).
- Pairing Successful: Blue LED solid for 1 second (2 short beeps).
-
Normal Operation: Blue LED blinks on for 0.5 seconds and off for just under 3 seconds.
-
Alarm Triggered: Blue LED flashes rapidly (0.3 seconds on, 0.3 seconds off) for 20 minutes, along with the floodlight flashing (0.4 seconds on, 0.6 seconds off).
-
Tamper Alarm: Both lights flash quickly (0.3 seconds on, 0.3 seconds off) for 20 minutes.
What Do the Beeps on My Siren Mean?
When you first set up your siren, it will go through a series of beeps indicating its status:
- Inserting Power Cable: 1 short beep; blue LED stays on solid while the siren boots up.
- Pairing Mode: 1 short beep; blue LED flashes (0.5 seconds on, 0.5 seconds off).
- Pairing Successful: 2 short beeps; blue LED solid for 1 second.
Other Beep Indicators:
- Power Outage: The siren beeps 10 times when switching to battery mode and resumes normal operation.
- Firmware Updates: After a firmware update, the siren reboots with 1 short beep.
What Can I Use the Floodlight on My Siren For?
The floodlight on your siren can be used similarly to a Hive dimmable bulb. Through your HomeShield dashboard, you can:
- Change the name of the floodlight.
- Set schedules and adjust brightness.
- Link it to other Hive devices (like motion sensors) to illuminate areas around your home.
What Type of Battery Does My Siren Use?
Your siren uses a rechargeable 2200mAh 3.7V type 18650 battery. Here are some key points:
- The battery should last around 3 years, depending on usage.
- In backup mode, the battery lasts approximately 12 hours without sounding the siren or 30 minutes when the siren is active.
- The battery recharges automatically when mains power is restored, taking 8 to 24 hours depending on usage.
To access the battery, remove the cover on the back of the siren using a Phillips screwdriver. Be careful not to lose the spring-loaded screw.
I’ve Received a Low Battery Notification for My Siren, How Do I Change the Battery?
If you receive a low battery notification, it indicates that your siren is running on battery power. The siren has a backup for 12 hours, including a 30-minute alarm.
To replace the battery:
- Removing the siren from the back plate will trigger the tamper alarm. You can snooze this alarm for 60 minutes by accessing your siren from the manage devices menu.
By following this guide, you can effectively install, operate, and maintain your Hive siren, ensuring your home remains secure.
