Google Home is a smart home speaker, similar to the Amazon Echo speakers. It enables users to speak voice commands to interact with services through the Home’s intelligent personal assistant, Google Assistant.

Google Assistant is an intelligent personal assistant developed by Google. It is available on the Google Pixel smartphones, as well as Google Home and the Google Allo app.

 CAUTION: This is not compatible with multi-user/multi-home. 

Steps to Connect Hive with Google Home:

  1. Open the Google Home app.
  2. Tap on “Home Control.”
  3. Select “Hive” from the list of smart home providers.
  4. Input your Hive login details.
  5. Tap “Discover devices.”
  6. Once discovered, you should be able to control devices individually or group them by creating “Rooms.”

Talking to Google

Once your Hive devices are connected, you can use voice commands to control them through Google Assistant. For example, you can say:

  • “Hey Google, set the thermostat to 22 degrees.”

Increase the Target Temperature by a Specific Degree

Say ‘OK Google’ or ‘Hey Google’ then:

  • “Turn up the temperature by X degrees”
  • “Turn up the thermostat by X degrees”
  • “Turn up the [thermostat name] by X degrees”

What Google Home says or does:

  • Changes the target temperature to the requested temperature on the only thermostat in your home or the desired thermostat if specifically named.

Turn Up the Target Temperature

Say ‘OK Google’ or ‘Hey Google’ then:

  • “Turn up the temperature”
  • “Turn up the thermostat”
  • “Turn up the [thermostat name]”

What Google Home says or does:

  • Target temperature will increase by 3℃ or 5℉.

Find Out What the Target Temperature Is/Temperature in the Home

Say ‘OK Google’ or ‘Hey Google’ then:

  • “What is the temperature inside?”
  • “What is the thermostat set to?”

What Google Home says or does:

  • Asking “What is the temperature inside?” will tell you both the target temperature and the actual temperature in your home.
  • Asking “What is the thermostat set to?” will tell you what the target temperature is currently on your thermostat.
