Understanding Your Heat Pump

Answer

Heat pumps work differently from boilers. To get the best performance and comfort, follow these simple tips:

Keep Temperature Changes Small
  • Why: Heat pumps work best with gradual changes. Big drops (like 5°C or more) make it harder to warm up your home quickly.
  • Action:
    • Open the Hive App.
    • Go to Heating Schedule.
    • Make sure there are no large temperature jumps in your schedule.

TIP: Set your heating to start earlier so your home reaches the right temperature when you need it.

Avoid Frequent Thermostat Changes
  • Why: Constantly changing the temperature can make your home less comfortable and use more energy.
  • Action:
    • Choose a comfortable target temperature.
    • Try to keep it steady throughout the day.

TIP: Heat pumps heat slowly and steadily—this is normal and more efficient.

Check Your Heating System Settings
  • Why: Hive needs to know you’re using a heat pump to work correctly.
  • Action:
    • In the Hive App, go to Heating Control > Settings > Type of Heating.
    • Make sure it’s set to Heat Pump, not Boiler.
Understand Normal Heat Pump Behaviour
  • Slower Heat Rise: Heat pumps warm your home gradually. This is normal and efficient.
  • Longer Run Times: It’s okay if your heat pump runs for long periods—it’s designed to maintain a steady temperature.
