Answer
Power+ is Hive's smart charging offer designed to make energy savings simpler and greener. With Power+, you’ll receive 25% off the cost of energy used whenever we smart charge your device.
- Works with any British Gas electricity tariff (including Time of Use EV tariffs)
- You can override EV smart charging anytimeand pay your standard tariff rate
- It works with myenergi zappi and zappi glo EV charges
- Supports excess solar charging with a myenergi zappi charger
For more information on Power+, see Introducing Power+: Our Smart Charging Offer.
How does it work?
Power+ automatically schedules your EV charging at the cheapest and greenest times, typically overnight.
Here’s how it works:
- You’ll need to use the Hive app to manage your home EV charging – make sure you’ve selected the Power+ schedule within the Hive app charger settings (details below)
- You plug in your EV and tell us when you need it ready by in the Hive app
- We’ll handle all the smart scheduling – charging when overall grid demand is lower and renewable generation is higher
- The Hive app manages everything in the background and keeps you updated, with the option to manually override if you need it
- Once the charging session has finished, you can view the individual transaction in the Hive app to track your credits, cost of charge, and mileage added
- With a myenergi zappi charger and a compatible solar system, you can also benefit from excess solar charging with Power+
How do I enable Power+?
Once your Zappi charger has been set up in the Hive app, follow these steps to complete Power+ onboarding
| Tap the EV charger from the home screen | Tap the 'Activate Power+' banner if shown, or the settings cog | Go into the schedule settings | Select Power+ |

Then continue through the Power+ onboarding screens – you may be asked to link your British Gas account if you haven’t already done this
If your British Gas account is eligible, you'll see the below:

I have a solar system – how do my Power+ credits work? If you have a compatible solar system installed, you’ll also have the benefit of charging using excess solar while your EV is charging in Power+ mode. We do this by making sure any excess solar generation is fed to your EV automatically to minimise your charging costs.
As you don’t buy the excess solar energy from the grid, it’s important we separate it out to give you full clarity on where your Power+ credits come from. You can view the detail on this in your individual charge transactions in the Hive app.
Here’s what this means:
- Ongoing: the date and time of this specific charge
- Net Charge duration: the length of the charge (this is measured from when you first plug your vehicle in to when you unplug it)
- Charge added: the total level of energy added to your vehicle
- Consumed from the grid: just the energy you bought from the grid that was added to your vehicle (this is what your Power+ credit is applied to)
- Mileage added: an estimate of the mileage gained from this charge
- Cost: the total cost of the charge
- Power+ credit earned: the credit you’ll receive from this charge

In this example, part of the charge was completed by providing excess solar energy to the vehicle. We know this because the ‘Consumed from grid’ value is lower than the total ‘Charge added’. The difference in these values is the excess solar consumption added during this charge. The Power+ credit is only applied to the ‘Consumed from grid’ value, as this is the only energy you buy.
TIP: If you have a myenergi charger but you don’t have a solar system, you’ll still see the separate ‘Consumed from grid’ value, although this will always be the same as the total ‘Charge added’.
Do I need to turn off any schedules in the myenergi app? No, you don’t need to change anything in your myenergi app when you switch to using Hive Power+ for charging your EV:
- Enabling Power+ will overwrite any schedules you had already set in the myenergi app
- Your charger will update to show ‘ECO+’ mode in the myenergi app whenever we charge a vehicle in Power+ mode
- If you override the Power+ schedule in the Hive app to force a charge, the myenergi app will update to show ‘FAST’ mode
